September 2018

Summer may have ended, but the travel don’t stop! We here at Griots Republic pride ourselves in providing you with not only excellent content that is informative, educational and always relevant; we also enjoy highlighting destinations and shedding light on history and culture that may not be as well known by the masses. Welcome to Destination Ghana!

First up, writer contributor Veronica Webb gives us insight from an ex-pat’s perspective on all things from living in Ghana, to the former president Kwame Nkrumah, who led the country to independence in 1957. Next, we explore the Maroon people of the Americas and the cultural connections with the Motherland – specifically Ghana and Nigeria. Then we get your fingers snappin’ with some Ghanaian Highlife music and Go-Go (DMV stand up!) as we explore the Backyard Band’s Back2Africa project. And no issue on an African country would be complete without exploring the food!

There’s plenty more to explore in this issue from the best cameras for the newbie travel photographer, to examining African religion vs western ideals, to the cause of the recent increase in plantar wart cases in travelers (who knew?). So, brew up the last batch of that sweet tea, put your feet up and enjoy the breeze of the last of the dog days of summer while you get into our September Destination Ghana issue. Like that sweet tea, it’s sure to hit the spot.
