Born and raised in the Houston, Texas area, Kia Young is a senior mechanical engineering student at North Carolina A&T State University. She is actively involved, serving as a mentor and tutor, as well as holding past leadership positions in several campus organizations. Young has also had engineering internships at Toyota, Pacific Gas & Electric, Sandia National Laboratories, and Shell Oil Company. She is a HOME Scholar, Dowdy Scholar, Harvard SVMP Alum, AMIE Ambassador, Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT) Fellow, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. In 2014, she studied abroad in Thailand and has since then traveled to 10 other countries. This past summer, she founded HBCU Travelers, a nonprofit dedicated to providing HBCU students with scholarships to support them in pursuing international experiences. Upon graduation, she will be working for Shell Oil Company, and plans to return to school to earn an MBA.
